Meadow Muffins are seasoned and composted horse manure for use as a fertilizer. It takes nearly three years for our composted clydesdale horse manure to become the rich and natural product we are offering to you. Meadow Muffins do not smell like manure, but dark soil full of nutrients. Easy to use: Mix it into your garden or make a fertilizing teaHorse manure basically consists of broken down, composted grain, urine, minerals, vegetable matter such as hay as a feed, and straw used for the horse’s bedding, and weed seeds. Horses are unable to digest weed seeds, and are passed through their digestive tract to their manure. Summer time the horses are in pasture, eating fresh grass. In winter when the pasture grasses are dormant, the horses are fed hay taken from those same pastures, so weed seeds are always present. To remove the weed seed, most manufacturers heat the manure, harming the good microbes, bacteria and nutrients. Animal manure is a terrific fertilizer which improves the soil structure by helping the soil hold more nutrients and water. By adding the manure to the soil it encourages the soil microbial activity which promotes the soil’s trace mineral supply, improving plant nutrition. Most livestock manures can be directly placed on the fields after being dropped by the animal. Horse manure is the one that cannot. Horse manure contains a large volume of nitrogen, which causes the manure to become hot, due to all the microbes working hard to break down the vegetable matter creating heat from their activity and friction of working. This “hot” manure would burn the plants and soil, so needs to “cure” first before using. The small piles produced by the horse in a pasture does not create the heat buildup due to lesser micros activity and is relatively harmless to the soil. It also does not break down as quickly because of more exposure to the air. The manure mound or champ as was called, to store the manure while breaking down creates a lack of oxygen thus creating this large amount of microbial activity. |
